This is what the prop area looked like BEFORE:
You literally couldn't walk through the area. It has been impossible to find props for shows, because we simply couldn't get to them. It has been years since this has been cleaned and sorted properly. We worked on it a little bit last year, but there were only two people who were able to help, and we just couldn't do it alone.
This time, we took everything out. EVERYTHING. This is what the space looked like for a few short minutes while we dusted and swept:
This shot was taken about three steps back from the first one, but you can see the size of the room! It's HUGE! And it was packed full of stuff.
Of course, we couldn't just leave all of the props up on the stage or out in the parking lot, so we brought back all of the stuff we were going to keep, and put it away. This is what that looks like:
You might recognize the VERY happy man - that's John Jones, the theatre manager. All of the boxes on the right-hand side are still full of unorganized props, but now we've got lots of space to take down the boxes and sort through them, one at a time, and then put things away on the shelves. The theatre is going to be much better at finding props now that we have an organized prop room!
Of course, all of the extra stuff had to go somewhere...
We rented a 4-ton dumpster for all of the things that were beyond repair, and we filled it up to overflowing. Everything else (the things that are useable, but that the theatre doesn't need anymore) is in the parking lot, free for anyone to take. In a day or two, once the dumpster is empty, we'll fill it up with everything that's left.
Again, a big thanks to everyone who came out and helped! You're all stars!
